Sheep markets were broadly stronger, with strong competition for quality new-season and heavy lambs lifting prices across NSW, SA, Tasmania and WA, while increased supply drove a very large national yarding.

The trends appear to be:

  • NSW recorded strong demand, with new-season lambs and improved mutton quality driving firm to dearer markets.
  • Deniliquin recorded exceptionally strong competition, with lamb and mutton prices among the best on record.
  • SA, Tasmania and WA markets were mostly firm to dearer, although old-season lambs at Muchea eased.
  • National lamb numbers increased by 11,146 head, driving the 11,893-head rise in total yardings.
