Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary
Cattle markets continued to strengthen across most regions, with widespread rain, tighter quality supply and intense buyer competition driving significant gains in feeder, restocker and cow categories.
The trends appear to be:
- Stronger markets nationally, with most centres recording solid price gains
- Buyer competition intensified, particularly from feeders, processors and restockers
- Rainfall boosted confidence and supported aggressive bidding across eastern states
- Feeder cattle and weaners performed strongly, especially quality lines
- Cow markets continued higher, with heavy cows sharply dearer in many centres
- Larger yardings in QLD were well absorbed, while some southern centres remained supply constrained
- Quality remained a key factor, with better-finished cattle attracting premium competition
East Coast (QLD, NSW, VIC)
Overall market significantly dearer, supported by widespread rainfall, stronger buyer confidence and active processor competition.
QLD results were very strong:
- Dalby (5,501 head) recorded major gains, with feeder cattle, bullocks and cows lifting 30–40c/kg to record levels amid strong competition
- Gracemere (2,285 head) saw improved quality and stronger restocker, feeder and processor demand push most categories higher
- Charters Towers (4,433 head) delivered sharp gains for quality cows, heavy steers and grown heifers on stronger processor activity
NSW markets also strengthened sharply:
- Casino saw numbers double, while strong buyer demand lifted weaners, feeders, cows and bulls significantly higher
- Singleton recorded very strong competition, with steer calves exceeding 600c/kg amid rain-driven restocker demand
- Moss Vale saw reduced supply and sharp price rises across weaners, yearlings and heavy cattle
- Silverdale reported significantly dearer trends across cows, bulls, feeder heifers and weaner steers due to active competition
VIC markets remained firm to dearer:
- Bairnsdale recorded stronger trade competition, lifting calves, cows and bulls
- Echuca saw prices rise 10–30c/kg, with grainfed trade cattle and cows leading gains as rain improved demand
South Australia
- Mt Gambier recorded stronger feeder, restocker and cow prices on reduced numbers and firm competition
- Mt Compass saw mixed trends, with interstate demand pushing cow prices higher while younger cattle eased slightly
Summary: Rainfall-driven confidence and aggressive buyer demand continue to underpin cattle markets, with feeders, weaners and cows recording widespread gains while quality cattle remain highly sought after nationwide.
