Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets generally strengthened across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, with widespread rain and reduced yardings supporting stronger competition, particularly for quality young cattle, feeders and cows.

The trends appear to be:

  • Queensland markets strengthened following widespread rain, with gains across most categories and strong demand for well-bred young cattle.

  • New South Wales markets were very strong, with restocker demand and improved competition lifting prices across most classes.

  • Victorian markets were dearer for quality trade cattle, feeder steers, grown heifers and cows, while mixed-quality cattle remained mostly firm.

  • South Australian markets improved, with stronger demand for yearlings, dearer vealers and feeder cattle, and firm grown steers and bullocks.

Queensland

  • Dalby: Reduced yarding after widespread rain supported stronger prices across all categories, particularly heavy yearling heifers, bullocks and cows.

  • Gracemere: Rain-disrupted supply contributed to price gains across many classes, led by well-bred light yearling steers; cow prices varied with quality and condition.

  • Charters Towers: Most categories sold dearer under strong competition, with notable gains for trade heifers, grown steers, bullocks and heavy bulls.

  • Summary: Rain and reduced supply strengthened Queensland markets, with quality and competition supporting gains across most cattle classes.

New South Wales

  • Singleton: Most categories improved despite subdued buyer competition, including light weaner steers, heifers and heavy cows.

  • Casino: A very strong market saw restocker weaners, light yearling cattle, cows and heavy bulls sell dearer.

  • Moss Vale: Strong demand lifted trade cattle considerably, with feeder steers, cows and heavy processing bulls also improving.

  • Summary: New South Wales markets were very strong, supported by restocker demand and firm competition across a broad range of cattle.

Victoria

  • Bairnsdale: Reduced yarding met a dearer market, with grown heifers and cows improving while heavy bulls remained firm.

  • Echuca: Following weekend rain, quality trade cattle and feeder steers were dearer on strong demand for weight, while mixed-quality cattle remained mostly firm and beef cows improved slightly.

  • Summary: Victorian markets strengthened for quality cattle, with reduced yardings and demand for weight supporting prices.

South Australia

  • Mount Compass: Good-quality cattle met stronger competition for yearlings, while grown cattle remained firm and heavy cows and bulls showed variable results.

  • Mount Gambier: Reduced supply supported a dearer market for vealers, feeder grown steers and heavy cows, while grown steers and bullocks remained firm.

  • Summary: South Australian markets improved overall, with stronger competition for yearlings and feeder cattle and firm results for heavier grown cattle.
