Previous Close Cattle Markets Summary

Cattle markets were mostly softer as mixed-quality winter yardings and selective buyer demand weighed on prices, although processor competition and feedlot demand continued to support quality cattle and cows.

The trends appear to be:

  • Mixed-quality winter yardings resulted in softer prices across many young cattle categories.
  • Strong feedlot and processor demand supported quality finished cattle and cows.
  • Feeder cattle performance varied depending on quality and weight.
  • Well-finished stock continued to attract solid competition.

Queensland

  • Dalby yarded 8,100 head, with selective buyer demand resulting in generally cheaper prices as feeder cattle and cows eased.
  • Charters Towers yarded 2,947 cattle, with heavier feeder steers improving while cows and most processor cattle eased.
  • Gracemere yarded 3,095 head, where larger numbers and mixed seasonal quality saw lighter cattle sell easier while well-finished bullocks remained well supported.
  • An additional agency report was available from Emerald.

Summary: Queensland markets were mixed to easier, with quality continuing to determine price outcomes as buyer demand remained selective.

New South Wales

  • Singleton yarded 768 cattle, with weaker young cattle prices offset by stronger demand for heavy cows.
  • Casino yarded 1,800 head, with softer restocker weaners and cows while heavy bulls remained strong.
  • Moss Vale recorded a generally softer market, although grain-fed trade cattle and heavy cows remained well supported.
  • Silverdale yarded 702 cattle, with most categories easing while heavy kill bulls lifted 10–15c/kg on strong demand.
  • Additional agency reports were available from Gunnedah, Scone, and Singleton.

Summary: NSW markets generally eased, although processor demand continued to underpin heavy cows and bulls.

Victoria

  • Bairnsdale yarded 224 cattle, with a firm market as prime cattle strengthened on limited supply and heavy bulls improved.
  • Echuca yarded 1,430 cattle, with stronger competition lifting most categories by 10–20c/kg, supported by strong feedlot demand.
  • Additional agency reports were available from Shepparton, Bairnsdale, and Echuca.

Summary: Victorian markets were mostly firm to stronger, driven by active feedlot and processor competition.

South Australia

Summary: South Australian markets were mixed, with selective buying supporting quality young cattle.

Western Australia
